Hank Thomas Political Art

Among the first streetwear brands I got into as a senior in high school was Kiser of New York. I recommend that you hit up that link--the video that introduces the site is pretty tight, and the dancers actually spell out 'Kiser.' Anyway, they have a project on their site called "A Graphic Life" featuring the art of Hank Thomas. Check out some of his work below

While I'm sure most of us have seen pretty much all of these 're-branding' ideas in other design campaigns, their message brings to attention some important issues - how long til Obama puts an end to black prisons, a senseless drug war, and easy access to weapons on our streets?

Animal Collective A Capella!

Big props to the a capella group at Lewis and Clark, which has proven itself much cooler than any of the groups at American University.

Ingenuity

Sure, you can start up your own blog to attack hipsters and promote jam bands. Or your can just read the ones that have been established.

I was told about Hipster Runoff by a friend of C-Beezy's when I visited New Jerusalem. The extent to which its writer is familiar with hipster tendencies (I hesitate to call it culture) is pretty surprising, considering the heavy sarcasm and satirical nature of the site. While the writing may become tedious to follow at times, overall it's pretty funny and I suggest adding it to your feedreader.

This post is dedicated to Billy T., whose appreciation for hipster degradation is unparalleled in the NW corner.

Louis Vuitton Garbage

I hate when my favourite streetwear/sneaker blogs are overrun by high fashion garbage. And Japan-exclusive shit...which, in regard to both, is actually a daily occurrence. Anyway, the only three people who will drop $8,250 on a skateboard in a piece of Louis Vuitton luggage are fucking hypebeasts (you know Kanye's getting one). It feels good to put my opinion out there, too. I love all 5 of you readers.

In other news, according to Wikipedia, my favourite candy bar, Zagnut, has a niche market and is sold mostly online. Fortunately, I had been saving the one I got in my stocking for Christmas until today (for no good reason), and I might just have to cop a couple more in Central PA before returning to DC.

On the status of this nation

As a literature minor, I wish I could take a whole course on Kurt Vonnegut. Or just devote my time to reading everything he's written. Either way, I finally got around to reading Hocus Pocus this holiday break and found this notable quote:

"When you dare to think about how huge the illegal drug business is in this country [upwards of 50 billion dollars], you have to suspect that practically everybody has a steady buzz on, just as I did during my last two years in high school, and just as General Grant did during the Civil War, and just as Winston Churchill did during World War II." (p. 106)

I wish more famous writers would call out famous public figures.

Talk of perfection...

...makes me feel good inside, as do stop-motion short films. And sneakers, which is why I present to you (compliments of Rafik) this impressive piece, which incorporates all of these things.
