To bring you up to date

Not much has happened lately, in terms of both my life and this web address. Yesterday I had my first save at the pool I work at, and today I had another. I also elected to free the pet turtle my former roommate left me with - Free Mandela! While he may have lost his natural instinct, it was much more natural for him to die in nature than spend the rest of his life in a fucking aquarium. Besides, death is just the worst case scenario. I'm sure he'll thrive (assuming Red-Eared Sliders can live in Central PA), as I left him at a very serene and secluded lake near my house.

I finished converting my old Schwinn into a fixed gear, which was satisfying due to the prolonged nature of the project (due to a delayed income). I'll try to post a picture tomorrow. I only really worked 3 hours or so today, which means I spent 5 or so screwing around on break. I went on a ride and practiced back-pedaling and doing track stalls and such, but it will probably take a little while to learn to skid. I wanted to ride more, but then it started raining so I played some chess and read some of Roberto Bolano's Savage Detectives, which thus far has been 200 pages of Excellence (I would have loved to been able to put the proper tilda over the n, but alas Blogspot is useless).

This summer has proven solitudinous and I've started to watch a lot of films, about one a day. Recommendations for you: Vertigo, Brazil, Superfly. I've started to do some damage to the AFI Top 100 Films, which has been rather gratifying. I can't wait to get back to DC and get in the fast lane though...

Currently listening: Animal Collective - Feels, because it's great music and Merriweather Post Pavilion can be annoying when I think about some of the people that like it and I know they probably don't appreciate Feels or even know about it

Do you write for hipster runoff now?

Ha, you make a valid point in suggesting my pompousness, but in my fairness: last time I saw animal collective I had to deal with three wildly unattractive fat chicks grinding and bumping against me to 'my girls,' and then complaining about everything else played from their catalogue. still having nightmares.

thnx 4 rding, hipster comrade. also, can you link me to your blog? alexwont@gmail.com

Ahoy,

I must say that you took the best course of action in regards to our former pet. Mandela had a good run in our room, although maybe we should have tried to smoke him out. All in all he was well worth the price and time we put into him for the bounties that girls "checking out the turtle" paid off into for you I expect. I couldn't have taken him back anyway since our landlord doesn't allow pets. Good to know he'll be in nature where he belongs.

PC OUT

WHY OH WHY did Animal Collective snub Feels at Electric Factory? Did they not realize how fabulous Flesh Canoe would be live? Or Banshee Beat? Major disappointment.

Also, I hope you don't mind my commenting. I assume we've reached a sufficient level of chumminess as former neighbors for it to be kosher.

Sarah, your commenting means a lot to me! I forgot you were at that show, how close were you? Also, where are you living next year?

About 10 feet from the stage, which ended up being too damn close. The personal bubble was definitely breached. And Kelley and I will be living it up in Centennial next year! I assume you're off campus?
