Free Drugs for School Zone

Just stumbled across this video posted on the YouTube homepage. I must say, I absolutely love it --only because it's absolutely FUCKING absurd. Watch the whole thing; the narrator suggests even he, an upright, righteous Christian, would eat people if he didn't have his religion.

The Obligatory re-Reading of 'The Catcher in the Rye'

I really wish Salinger wasn't a hermetic bastard and had written more than he had; particularly, a novel about coming of age for kids that graduated from high school but are equally as confused as Holden about where to take their life would be really helpful right now. I'm currently on spring break but haven't been this miserable for years (actually, since winter break). Home really sucks when you have such few friends and live in a town that's so far off the map. I was supposed to go to New York for some Big East games at the garden and hit up Supreme, among other things, but this plan was postponed until Thursday and the wait really is no longer worth it. Subsequently, I think I'm going to catch the Greyhound from Harrisburg back to DC tomorrow whether my parents like it or not. Did I mention it's my mom's birthday?

If I declare that Spring is now, that means Summer is only around the corner

I think it might be fate if I were to randomly meet a cute girl rockin' a Stussy swim suit. Glad to see the classic street/skate/surf company is expanding to cater more to girls. Now, they just need to lose a couple of their latest graphic designers and pay the Japanese no heed.

Meet Me at the Park (It's Going Down)

Just noticed that UMD-founded Word Beats & Life Inc. has posted updated information for the 4th Annual Bum Rush the Boards hip-hop chess tournament. Word Beats & Life Inc. is an awesome organization that publishes a hip-hop magazine and engages youth with an 'urban art academy.' The web site describes the connection between chess and hip-hop pretty clearly:

"There is a logical connection between chess and hip-hop considering that hip-hop, as a culture, is highly competitive. It is replete with opportunities to battle and to compete in order to win over crowds, crews, and sponsors. By connecting hip-hop to chess, WBL has created a chess tournament that exposes youth to a culture (hip-hop) and a science (chess) that requires them to think ahead, to manage talent and to size up their adversaries. WBL recognizes that these skills are not only useful in both chess and hip-hop, but in business and life, as well."

Anyway, the tournament goes down April 18, 2009 at the Columbia Heights Community Center. I definitely intend to be there, but will also need teammates. Maybe we can take on the RZA and GZA together

Uganda Kick, Push

Found a link to this blog through my friend Amelia. The Uganda Skateboard Union is one of the most creative and practical development ideas (not to mention straight awesome) for communities plagued by idleness as a result of poverty. Check out the link to the project here for details regarding the mission and a film to come.

When I'm out of town...

It seems that some heat has unfolded on my cul-de-sac back in Central PA. For readers that have been to my house before, the picture below depicts my neighbor's lawn after it caught fire at some point this afternoon. Fortunately, the line where the burnt grass ends is more or less the beginning of my yard. For those that haven't visited, take note of the farmland that stretches for miles.

The Latest, and Two Opinions

My parents gave up meat for lent, making them pescetarians. Pretty respectable. I gave up pizza, a commitment which I almost forgot yesterday night in Adam's Morgan outside jumbo slice.

The other night I had a dream in which I had a haircut, which is so far from my reality the past 6-8 months that it was pretty out there. It probably had something to do with the fact that 30% of my close friends volunteer the opinion that I need a haircut every time I see them.

It turns out I don't need to have my wisdom teeth pulled over spring break. In turn, I think I'm headed to NYC at some point over the week to hit up Supreme, hopefully some Big East games at Madison Square Garden, and other sick destinations that you couldn't find in DC.

Fiery, passion-filled opinions:
1) The other day at my mentoring/babysitting job the 14 year old I look after was watching a Disco Channel program featuring Steve Irwin and attack dogs. These dogs were dirty; trained to use their sharp teeth and attack humans in the groin?! Sounds pretty fucking awful if you ask me. Dogs are supposed to be man's best friend, and in turn our no-good police force takes them and brutalizes them to be an enemy. Isn't this something the Nazis did? Shouldn't that somehow reinforce how inhumane it is?

2) I was having a discussion the other day with some friends regarding the scene from Jackass where one of the members dresses up like a fairy and then becomes the "meter fairy" urban legend. Our justice system is really stupid and greedy in that this practice is illegal. How can any basic moral code be established if our own laws prohibit us from literally "helping thy neighbor" ? The indisputable root of the problem, as few would like to admit, is capitalism. The same people who pound consumerism into our heads make our laws, which is reflected by the aforementioned policy. After all, it is much more profitable to hand out tickets and ruin people's days than it is to have everyone pay their meter. Screw that
