Road Trip, Second Leg - Manhattan

So the train from Trenton took us right into Penn Station, under Madison Square Garden. We filled a discreet bottle with a fifth of whiskey and decided it wasn't a good idea to drink it on the train, and ended up polishing it off as we walked to Times Square. We tried to get on TRL, but it wasn't our lucky day...SYKE it was the first time to the Rotten Apple for a couple heads on our trip, so it was imperative that they see this international landmark, and I was in favor just so I could relate to what Ginsberg and Kerouac were writing about in the 50s, as I myself had never been there despite previous trips to the city.

After that, we decided to make as much use of our $7 all-day subway fun pass as possible and hit up the Village, scoping out select locations at NYU and taking in Washington Square Park. Nice enough, nothing too eventful. We headed further downtown to the Lower East Side so we could hit up some sneaker boutiques, to the likes of Supreme, DQM, and Recon, seeing that Cory had graduation cash to cop kicks even though I needed them much more with my daily beaters suffering from holes in the sides and soles. He did score some sweet Nikes that commemorate the Olympics, although I'm sure his purchase did little in the way of supporting Tibet. What a quandary.

This last stop was no quick hop and we ended up walking large circles before hitting all of the desired destinations. We were hungry by this point and managed to stumble upon a GREAT falafel joint somewhere near Bowery and treated some of our party to their first falafel. This story was circa a military surplus store and our beloved Iranian companion Ali bought an Army field jacket.

If my memory serves correct, we decided next to go to Central Park because a certain asshole (who shall remain unnamed but has in days past dissed this blog) wouldn't answer his phone and thereby provide us with coordinates to Alphabet City. The park was awesome...I had never been there before, either, and we just climbed around the rocks, took some pictures near the Home Alone pigeon bridge, and otherwise kicked it. We also watched a softball game between the casts of two Broadway productions, which was pretty neat.

We finished off the day by doin' some shopping on St. Mark's Place and posting up (real hard) at the Rockefeller Plaza. All in all, a great time, and I did alright without cash.

Pictures to come.
